Story Angles

  • Founder profile — Chaya Mobasser launched Chaïa at age 16 from Los Angeles, building a global supply chain across India and Brazil before turning 18.
  • Adda embroidery preservation — every bag contains 40,000–100,000 hand-applied beads using a 300-year-old Indian technique threatened by industrialization.
  • Brazilian crochet cooperatives — Chaïa partners with women-led cooperatives in coastal Brazil providing fair wages, healthcare, and childcare.
  • Slow fashion economics — small-batch production, no flash sales, no overstock, garments built for years not seasons.
  • Cultural exchange in fashion — the two dots above the ï in Chaïa represent the country and the wearer, brought together by each piece.

Founder Bio

Chaya Mobasser founded Chaïa in Los Angeles at age 16, motivated by a lifelong fascination with how cultures express identity through textiles. She studied Indian beadwork traditions and Brazilian crochet cooperatives directly, then built Chaïa as a bridge between artisan communities and modern wardrobes worldwide. The brand donates a portion of every collection's proceeds to nonprofit partners in the country of origin.
